BDA Account:
Your official
account on the JSE of all your shares, warrants and cash. You can only
buy shares with cash already deposited in your BDA Account and can only
sell shares in this Account. After registration we will open a BDA Acc
for you to deposit money into in order to start trading. Your BDA Acc
is updated daily with the JSE.
Click: Whenever you
are referred to click on something in the website
the text will be in Green.
Drop-down Arrow:
Clicking on the Drop-down Arrow will open a menu of
options from which to choose and can be selected by clicking on one of
them.
Index:
Shares on the JSE are grouped in sectors and an Index is made up
of the major shares in that sector. Movements in the Index value
reflect the movements in the shares in that sector weighted towards the
bigger shares in the sector.
JSE: The
Johannesburg Stock Exchange regulates trading in all listed
shares, share instalments and warrants.
JSE Trustees: All
cash balances are kept by JSE Trustees unless a
client elected to use a Money Market Account and signed the Mandate. A
market related interest rate is earned on cash balances.
Landing page: The
first web page you get to after entering the address.
Login: When you
register for one of the types of registration you will
select your own User Name and Password. To Login you must type your
User Name and Password into the required fields and click on Login.
Always keep your Password confidential.
Logoff: After using
the website, click on Logoff in the Top Nav Bar to
prevent unauthorized persons from viewing or trading on your website.
Money Market
Account: If you have cash in excess of R250 000 in your
account you can open a Money Market Account and earn a higher interest
rate on cash balances.
Navigation (Nav) Bar:
We refer to the Top Nav Bar and the Left Nav Bar.
These are menu items you can click on to navigate the website. When you
click on any menu button in the Top Nav Bar a new Left Nav Bar will
drop down for that part of the website.
Safex: The South
African Futures Exchange regulates trading in all
Index Futures and Single Stock Futures contracts.
SENS: All sensitive
company announcements like results,
director’s dealings, take-overs, etc. must be announced on
the
JSE’s SENS news service first. We provide a live SENS
newsfeed,
so you will see the announcements exactly at the same time as the
stockbrokers.
Single
Stock Futures: A Futures contract on a share as opposed to
a
Futures contract on an Index of Shares.
Share Code: The code
assigned to a share (normally 3 letters) to make
it easier to identify and trade a share.
Share Instalment:
Pay for only half the cost of the share and a finance
cost for the other half and still receive the full dividend on 100% of
the share. Instalments and Warrants trade on the JSE just like shares.
Warrant:
A standardised share option trading like a normal share on the
JSE. Warrants are highly geared or leveraged, substantially increasing
profit potential as well as risk. Do not attempt without studying
thoroughly.
Warrant
Code: The code assigned to a Warrant or Instalment share.
The
first 3 letters will be the underlying Share Code. The next 3 will
indicate the Issuer, the Type and the Class.
